Each time a page on your Internet site doesn't load, an error message shall be displayed to the site visitor. Because there are different errors, there are different pages that will appear, but what is typical for all of them is that they are generic and probably shall have practically nothing in common with the layout of your website, which may be aggravating for any website visitor. That is the main reason why hosting providers have introduced a function called Custom Error Pages. For a number of different errors, website visitors will see your customized content, which can be informative or funny, in accordance with your choice, and which will match the design and style of your site, so the pages will not seem like they aren't part of your Internet site at all. You may use this option for a number of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

If you get a shared hosting from us, you'll be able to set custom error pages for your sites easily, as this function is part of all our plans. The moment you have created the files and uploaded them to your web hosting account, you can check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia CP and click on the Edit button for the selected domain or subdomain. Inside the pop-up which will be displayed, you will see drop-down menus for all 4 kinds of errors and for each one of them you can choose an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a personalized page. Should you select the third option, you should only enter the URL to the file which you have uploaded and save the change. A different way to set customized error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder and to add a couple of lines of code in it. If you don't have previous experience or if you are just not sure how to do this, you could simply copy and paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All semi-dedicated servers which we offer support custom made error pages and it will not take more than several mouse clicks from your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this function. The option can be found in the Hosted Domains section of your CP where you'll have to input the links to the custom-made files using basic drop-down menus and an intuitive interface. Of course, you must upload them inside your account before that. In case you do not want to employ this function at some point, you can easily deactivate it just as fast and pick an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be shown whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you'd like to, you may also use an .htaccess file to permit the custom error pages. The file should include a particular line of code as well as a link for every single error type and you can easily find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
